Proud to be a licensed 5-Star establishment
(Animal Welfare Regulations 2018)
We are proud to say, here at Difford Kennels and Cattery we love animals of all shapes and sizes.
Such is the passion running through our family, we own and have owned many different types of animals and been involved in the business of kennelling for well over 40 years.
The length of experience we have allows us to identify the right people to work with us, all of whom share our passion and interest in what they do.
Over the years we have bred champions in various breeds, both cats and dogs, judged at the highest level, including Crufts. Pippa also judges horses, including the Horse of the Year Show and shows her own horses, having won many championships including Royal International, Hickstead and Horse of the Year Show.
Head girl Kelly has been with us at Difford Kennels and Cattery since 2004, having taken her degree in ANIMAl MANAGEMENT at Sparsholt College in Hampshire. She is 100% reliable, caring and dedicated to the animals in her care. We also have a team of dog walkers to help when we are busy.
Pippa has lived all her life with show dogs, cats and horses. The family moved to Difford kennels in 1980 and she has been involved in the business from the beginning. 40 years later , Pippa still enjoys working with animals and obtains enormous satisfaction from running a well respected business, welcoming back many regular clients year after year. She thrives on using her attention to detail, experience and knowledge of animal behaviour and health, to ensure that Difford provides the very best of care to every cat and dog that stays. During her rare time off Pippa enjoys riding, competing with some success in the horse showing world at the Royal International, Hickstead and Horse of the Year Show. More recently she has turned her hand to judging at some of these shows which is very rewarding if a little daunting. Pippa also enjoys trips to the theatre, bridge and is currently learning Italian, which is definitely a work in progress.
Kelly has grown up with animals and always loved dogs and cats. She wanted to work with animals after leaving school and completed a two year course at Sparsholt College to achieve a national diploma in Animal Management, with a distinction. Whilst at Sparsholt, Kelly did work experience at Difford Kennels and then started full-time after finishing the course in 2004. Kelly has since earned the position of manager and is a qualified first aider.
Our assistant manager has worked with cats and dogs for over seven years. He says that during this time he has experienced dogs of all sizes and temperaments. "Dogs are literally my life!" Cory is has a level 3 diploma in work based animal care and management, he is the assistant manager here at Difford Kennels. "I've been working with animals since 2009 and I still can't believe that I get to spend every day surrounded by cats and dogs!"
Katie has been at Difford kennels since September 2018, and has loved getting to know so many wonderful pets and people. She originally worked part time whilst she completed her level 3 in land based studies at Sparsholt college for which she received a merit. Since receiving her qualification Katie has been living and working full time at Difford. Katie is now also a qualified pet first aider. As of September 2020 Katie will be going to university to study veterinary nursing, for which she has completed 5 weeks work experience at a veterinary practice. Unfortunately this means she won’t be around so much, but will certainly be back to visit all her furry friends!
Bettina has only ever wanted to work with animals and studied animal science at Sparsholt college, followed by fourteen years working with dogs and cats. She joined the Difford Kennel team part time in 2019 and is also a pet first aider.
Jamie grew up in a house full of animals so it seemed only natural to look after them as a career. Jamie started with pet photography in London, followed by work experience with his local vet and full time pet sitting and dog walking. On leaving London he knew he wanted to continue working with animals and learn more. We are delighted he decided Difford would be a good place to do this. Jamie is planning to do a pets first aid course.
Joined us last summer on a work placement here at Difford kennels and now works here part time. She has her own dog a whippet called Lucy. April is studying animal management at Basingstoke college of technology, which will allow her to achieve her goal of working as an animal behaviourist/trainer. April feels that joining Difford will help her gain valuable experience. Aprils first experience with animals was having pets at home, she soon realised that she loved working with them, and that training and understanding them was her passion. Before coming to Difford April spent six months working with horses, and also at a different kennels.
